Hello, hello! I'm Dawn a.k.a Pennydoth.
I create 2D concept art for professional storytellers, ranging from indie writers to gaming studios. Specifically, my focus is on amplifying your world-building process through character and prop design. Pin-point attention to detail, prioritized interpersonal communication, and my expert knowledge about the language of visual storytelling & design, allows me to help my clients create strategic blueprints that put their desired narratives into sharper focus. Nothing brings me joy quite like sharing that satisfactory magic of getting a fuzzy idea from my client's head into their hands.

WHAT I DO
Character concept design is not just about establishing an individual's appearance, but also why they look the way they do. It's also important to know who they are, their personality, fundamental values, how they respond to adversity, and where they're from. What's the story and what's happening?
All these points will play a role in how I design your character. After all, I won't just be helping you create your character, their props, and the settings they navigate. I'll be helping you develop your story, so it's important that together we have a look beyond its pages.
Creators produce stories centered around communities of different people, languages, lived experiences, and heritages increasingly these days. I want to be part of that. Being an artist with a love for all things otherworldly, I'm super excited to set out on new engaging visual narratives. Join me?

*Inspired by Derek Siver’s Now Page
CHARACTER CREATION WITH STORYTELLING IN MIND.
After a 3-year journey of developing my design skills and focusing my role in an art production process, my new goal is underway. Anthology storyboards, fusing my love for character design, environment design, and cinematography.
SELLING PRINTS AND USING MY ART FOR SOCIAL CHANGE.
Whether it's having spent forever on the razor's edge of systemic racism or being a blerd girl navigating multi-fandom, the intersectional underrepresentation within multimedia isn't lost on me. With the uphill battle of a reignited civil rights uprising, I want to use my art in a way I'm called to do.
So I'm selling prints of my most popular work with 10% of proceeds going towards The Okra Project that's supporting Black Trans People who are facing food insecurity. The rest of the funds will go towards equipment and visual storytelling production.
LEARNING LANGUAGES AND BUILDING BRIDGES.
Some people commit to their niche at some point: an exercise routine, meditation, even a book club for starters. For me, it's learning Japanese. Taking a leap into such intimidating territory opened me up to amazing conversations, connections, music, food. Other languages too!
This choice pushed me to articulate my deepest self, understand my humanity, and intimately know the meaning of community for me. A decision that I don't regret.
